A Place For Former Employees of Aqurena Springs Amusement Park
To Get Together To Swap Memories, Pictures, And Rekindle Old Friendships
Aquarena Springs Amusement Park is now closed down and has been replaced by the Southwest Texas State University Aquarena Center, which serves as a research site for several of the university's programs. It also functions as a commercial dive site and is a popular spot for divers from all over the world.
I worked for a year at Aquarena as a swimmer in the underwater show. I was there during the transition from the traditional "Glurpo" show, to the "Magic of Atlantis". My time spent at Aquarena Springs was one of the fondest memories I have to this day. I worked and partied hard with my fellow employees and made some of the most unforgettable friends of my life there. I had the priviledge of meeting some of the most fun people I've come across as well as some of the most beautiful ladies I've ever seen. While offsetting for the mermaids, holding their air hoses, I was utterly spellbound by their grace and skills while performing their underwater ballets.I was often amazed at the patience of my fellow workers from the park as they dealt with people from all over the world who came to visit our little "amusement park". It may not have been Hollywood
or Broadway, but we were all stars in our own right, even if we did play second fiddle to a pig.
